Deputy Grand Marshall, John “Jack” Mulvey, was born January 27, 1929 in South Amboy.  Son of Julia (Howley) Mulvey and John F. Mulvey Sr., Jack has two brothers, James and “Butch” and a sister, Kathleen Varano.  He is married to Ann (Ballo) Mulvey for 58 years, and has a daughter, Susan Heimall and son Tom Mulvey.  Rounding out the rest of the family are grandchildren, Lauren Stolte, Mark Stolte, Kevin Mulvey and Erin Mulvey.

 

Jack graduated from St. Mary’s Elementary School in South Amboy and Perth Amboy Vocational and Technical High School.  Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served for two years.  After Ann’s bus ride to Texas, they were married in the chapel on base in Wichita Falls. They returned to New Jersey following Jack’s discharge and settled in the Morgan section of Sayreville, where they still reside.

 

Jack is retired from National Lead and Roosevelt Hospital.  He has been serving the community as a member of the South Amboy First Aid and Safety Squad over the last four decades, achieving rank of Captain in 1965 and is still active and answering calls.

 

Jack is a life-long parishoner of St. Mary’s Parish, serving as an usher for the past 25 years.  In his spare time, Jack enjoys watching baseball games. Lately his two favorite teams being the Binghamton Mets and the New Orleans Zephyrs.  He is also an amateur clown, having won several first-place trophies in annual competitions. He has taken that hobby and entertained many children with his gift.

 

Jack is honored by the South Amboy Parade Committee and their choice for Deputy Grand Marshall.
